Swimwear For Petite & Small Cups Arrives

THE WAIT IS OVER:
SWIMWEAR ARRIVES FOR PETITE AND SMALL CUPS!

Ever since I began selling lingerie online, I've continued to get messages about when I'll start carrying swimwear. My answer has always been the same, "When I find quality, stylish swimwear that fits my customers exceptionally well. It has to be something I would wear myself." That day have finally arrived.

I'm pleased to announce Eve's Apples Lingerie Boutique is now carrying Voda Swim. The Voda Envy Push Up gives 1 - 2 cup sizes and natural looking cleavage.

Before & After: Yulia, an international model prior to becoming a designer, models her custom designed swimwear, above.

Voda is the brain child of Yulia Drummond, whose inspirational st
ory behind designing the first top makes me proud to be carrying Voda. She created the first bikini top out of necessity. After becoming frustrated about not finding a bikini top that fit well for her modeling "go sees," she took matters into her own hands. Since she was used to making her own clothes in Russia, Yulia created the first bikini top for herself. It took around a year to get all the samples, sizing and fit perfect. The result is the Envy Push Up swimwear line which makes women feel comfortable and confident. I'm thrilled to be bringing you a brand that is inspiring in its creation and helps others feel good about themselves.

Voda is owned and operated by Yulia and Dustin Drummond, her husband. Both of them have spent long hours creating a brand the right way: with integrity, quality assurance and style. The Envy Push Up comes in a variety of styles, sizes and colors: the string bikini (the most popular style), hoop string bikini, turquoise stone string bikini, monokini, one piece and more coming soon.

Are you two different sizes on top and bottom. Not to worry. Voda lets you mix and match your size and style of top with your bottom (coming June 1, 2011). There are endless possibilities.
When you try an Envy Push Up, I think you'll be as surprised and delighted as I was to have a bikini top that actually fits and makes me look va-va voom on top! Try Voda Swim today!

Voda Envy Push Up Hoop String Bikini, Lipstick (pink), $127.

Be sure to check back next week for Eve's exclusive interview with Yulia Drummond who talks about her inspiration for founding Voda, her favorite designers and more! Did you know her favorite style bikini and color on women is the Voda Envy Push Up Hoop String Bikini in Lipstick, above? Find out more next week!

Exclusive Designer Interviews: Fleur't

Eve's Apples presents a new series of designer interviews. To kick off our exciting interviews with some of your favorite lingerie designers, we're bringing you Nancy Yoo, Owner and Designer of Fleur't, who abides by the simple belief of making "flirty, feminine lingerie that fits and feels good."

Fleur't, known for comfortable, lacy lingerie, shows its top selling bralettes & panties, above.

Fleur't is one of my favorite brands for the simple fact that once I put on the lingerie, it's so soft and supple that I never want to take it off. In coquettish lace and flirty details, wearing Fleur't lingerie makes me feel utterly divine. Read my interview below with Nancy about her philosophies and inspiration behind Fleur't.

Eve: What was your inspiration to become a designer?

Nancy: I was in graduate school studying for my Ph.D. in literature and though I was in an intellectually stimulating environment and surrounded by amazing people, I felt like I needed more a creative outlet. At that time I had a friend who as a graphics designer who felt the same way. We decided to start a lingerie company together. That didn't last long but I was hooked.

Eve: Who or what is your greatest design influence?

Nancy: I am into the beauty of clean lines and organized but also dreamy and magical spaces, intellectually, spiritually and emotionally. So I get my "feelings" about my designs and designing in general from looking at photographs, art, and especially natural forms that appeal to that sense in me. I also get a lot from stories.

Nancy Yoo, Owner & Designer of Fleur't

Eve: If your designs made one statement what would they be?

Nancy: Life is dreamy and magical.

Eve: What was your biggest obstacle in starting your business?

Nancy: Lack of financial and business knowledge.

Eve: What is your greatest reward/joy in designing or your business?

Nancy: Feeling like I can express some sense of myself and the world in my designs and also that I can bring beauty and specialness into other people's lives.

Eve: Who is your favorite designer?

Nancy: I like beautiful, functional but feminine clothes. Chloe, Vanessa Bruno, Catherine Malandrino, Thakoon, Philip Lim all appeal to me.

The Lulu bralette, $35, above, favored by Lingeristas!

Eve: What is your favorite quote that you live by?

Nancy: I don't have one. But I do like to remind myself every day that my life is fun, effortless and full of creative joy. When things get really tough which they do all the time) or when I have to do things with my business that I don't like (read: sales and bills), actively thinking this and actually speaking it helps me feel more connected to myself, my life and my business.

Eve: What is your favorite piece that you designed? Why?

Nancy: It's funny because my favorite designs are usually the ones that haven't sold well! I love wearing a ruched back bikini that we made out of beautiful stretch burnout stripe from Austria. It's just sexy and fun. Also, there is a lace bralet that we stopped selling two years ago made out of a chantilly stretch lace with lace straps that feels so romantic. I just re-discovered and can't stop wearing it.

Eve: What is the most important piece of advice when trying on/wearing lingerie/bras/swimwear?

Nancy: Make sure that whatever you're wearing fits you well and makes you feel beautiful and special without constricting the physical and energetic flow in your body. This means getting connected to your physical and spiritual self, not always easy but well worth the effort.

Eve: What is the one piece of lingerie/swimwear that you can’t live without?

Nancy: Sexy panties.

Thank you Nancy for the interview!

History of Bras: Part 3~ Ancient To 1915

Who would think that Lara Croft would be retro? Film and TV have a way of capturing styles, no matter how old, and altering them into a modern fashion statement. It seems that everyone talks about Mary Phelphs-Jacobs patented bra in 1914, but what most people don't realize is that women were wearing bras back in the Cretan times. The bra image (below right) looks like something start out of Tomb Raider or something that a female gladiator would be wearing in Spartacus.

Thanks to Fashion-Era for the following post about early Bras.

Vogue Reports the First Brassiere 1907

Bra fashion history began as far back as Cretan times, but 1907, was the year when the word brassiere was first reported in an American copy of Vogue. The original French meaning was support, but the word was out of use and the French chose to call a bra soutien-gorge. Cretan women wore bras thousands of years ago. Picture of the healthier Reform Bodice, back and front. In England bust improvers were available in the Edwardian period. By 1905 BBs as they were known were usual wear. (Right - Reform Bodice Bra)

This is the early supposedly healthier Reform Bodice bra with mesh net cups that gave virtually no support.

Early Brassières Pre~1915

Most of the major designers of the era have tried to lay claim to designing the first bra. Poiret probably had the strongest claim. Picture of simple wrap bra camisole. What is certain, is that all the designers promoted a simple breast retaining garment as better for the newer simple straight dress styles.

In the costume history of bras these early bras were similar to camisoles tops of the 1980s and 1990s. Initially at the turn of the 20th century even the word camisole was used too, but replaced by 'Bust Bodice' by 1905. (Above Left - Wrap around camisole style bra.)

In her bra history book 'Bras', Rosemary Hawthorne tells of her collection of brassières and of one that is stamped ' Brassiere. Model 441, British Made ', then of another 2-3 years older marked 'LA CYBELE' (No 18 British Made)'. By 1915 the magazine 'The Lady' recorded pretty bust bodices or brassieres as essential wear. Rosemary Hawthorne's bra history book is very informative and she often describes genuine examples of bras, corsets and girdles she has collected or has had donated to her.

Interview by Candace Rose: Eve of Eve's Apples Lingerie Specializing in Fitting Small Busted & Petite Women

Thank you to Candace Rose, who interviewed Eve and posted this article interview on March 18, 2011! Below is the interview Candace conducted.

"How many of you women are unhappy with your cup size? Do you wish you were a different size? What if I told you you're probably larger than the bra you've been wearing, especially if you have wide set breasts. Would you believe me?

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Gayvin Powers, (aka: Eve), owner and founder of Eve's Apples Lingerie, which specializes in bras for small busted and petite women. Powers shared that 'many women have different individual cup sizes, many women just have wide set breasts and traditional bra measuring doesn't always work.' I asked Gayvin what inspired her to open her lingerie boutique and she mentioned that a 'fitting at Rigby & Peller in London where the Queen gets fitted was my inspiration. They can tell what size you are bare breasted and they don't measure you. I wanted to design lingerie for small breasts but didn't launch due to my trip to London. It was eyeopening to women's bra sizes and made me think further on style and sizes for small busts.' It's very common for 'shallow breasted women to think they're a AA, but many are actually larger. 90% of women that take our online bra fitting have wide set breasts.' I was also intrigued to learn that 'most women are wide set and that many women who are athletes think that they are A cups but are actually larger.' The easiest quick fit for this situation is to "go down a band size and up a bra size."

To measure your bust properly, Gayvin uses band, cup and individual breast measurements along with assessing body type, breast shape, breast placement and current bra issue. When getting fitted at Eve's Apples they 'like to ask what size you currently wear to see if your band or cup size is correct.' Eve's Apple Lingerie website goes into great detail on how you should measure your breasts which is very easy. All you need is a bra without underwire, measuring tape and you are set! Owner Gayvin will go over your measurements and contact you with your correct bra size. By completing your online consultation you will qualify for free shipping on your first purchase.

When searching for a bra for small busted women it's important to know 'contour bras are not recommended for small busts unless its a petite bra or you have full breast tissue. Nudes are perfect when wearing a white t-shirt. If wearing a one shouldered top - convertible bras are best and give a really a good fit or try a strapless bra.

Eve's Interview Recommendations:

Wacoal Convertible Bra (8 Bras in One), $49.

Timpa Duet Lace Demi Cup Bra, $33.

Lingerie Designer Feature: Part 1 ~ Eberjey

Can you say, "J'adore Eberjey?" If you've tried their feminine bralettes and cozy lingerie then you've probably said it countless times before. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, try one of their bralettes and you'll know what I mean.

It's the opposite of when you accidently fall asleep in a bra. Hello -- uncomfortable! An underwire inevitably sticks into a rib and the cups yank up over the chest. When I accidently feel asleep in my Eberjey Retro India Lace Bralette, I feel fell deliriously fell asleep t
hinking I wasn't wearing a bra. I proceeded to sleep better than a Princess on a stack of down mattresses! In a sea of cheaply made lingerie that pokes, prods and pulls, how it is that Eberjey has become known for it's lovely lace and delicate details on comfy lingerie?
It starts with an amazing mission dedicated to comfort, life and love. Owners, Alejandrina Mejia and Mariela Rovito, state that, "Ebjerjey was born from our belief that the layer worn closest to the heart should express happiness, love and confidence -- all the things that make a woman truly beautiful.

Our dream was to make a line of underthings that we would wear ourselves. Tired of lingerie that confines women to an unnatural idea of standard beauty, we wanted drawers of pretty things that flatter real bodies and feel good too. So we came up with a small collection
of carefully designed items, in delicately flirty patterns and joyful colors. Things that made us happy when we put them on every morning.

Turns out, our 'dream' lingerie made other women happy, too! And so we began our production and named our baby Eberjey (ebb-er-zhay) which
means 'joy' in a Nigerian dialect."

With all focus on a pleasurable experience for the Eberjey Lingerista, it's no wonder that they instantly become a best seller where they're sold. As someone who has worked with them personally, I know that the customer is of paramount importance. They genuinely care of the customer's experience. When Eve's Apples was mentioned in The New York Times article, "The A-Crowd," Eberjey was the first line to sell out in our store and Mar
iela personally made sure we were restocked immediately -- that says a lot about their integrity.

Now that's quite a company and quite a vision that makes quite delicious bras.

"Size Up The Web" on EverBeautiful!

Thank you to EverBeautiful.com on posting about our "Size Up The Web" Campaign!

"Eve’s Apples Lingerie – Traditional bra fitting systems don’t work for small breasted women, says Eve of Eve’s Apples Lingerie. To help petite-busted women find their true size and the best fitting brands, Eve’s Apples Lingerie launched a campaign this past January that will run through the end of year. They invite visitors to their site to “Size Up the Web” for a complimentary online bra fitting.

The goal? To get small-breasted women everywhere to experience a bra fitting designed just for less-busty ladies, regardless of body shape. An online bra fitting, you ask? How could it possibly be accurate? “Our complimentary online bra fittings work for small-busted women of all body types – tall, short, broad or slim,” says Eve. “Women do their own measurements in the privacy of their home, then we review each submission personally and determine her true bra size based on all of the factors – not just chest circumference and breast size.” Expanding upon their commitment to help small-busted women feel as alluring as their busty counterparts, Eve’s Apples Lingerie believes the Size Up the Web campaign will:

*Help women look and feel their best in bras that both flatter and fit comfortably
*Increase the number of women who get fitted professionally by offering an at-home solution
*Minimize the hassle, cost and delay of returns for the wrong size, and
*Identify the brands that specialize in small bras and offer hard-to-find sizes

Eve is currently developing a patented bra-fitting system just for small-busted women that can be utilized without the help of a professional. Look for it to be released in late 2011. For more information – and to find your perfect bra size – visit Eve’s Apples Lingerie."

For a limited time, women who get fitted online with Eve's Apples get FREE SHIPPING (domestic) on their first order. Go to Eve's Apples and see why women all over the world are excited for a bra fitting!
