Every year when I think of the holidays, I think of my Mom's special Hot Buttered Rum recipe. It's so divine that I could eat it plain without the rum--sheer gluttony. The holidays are a great excuse for me to make it.

HOT BUTTERED RUM RECIPE

Warning, only eat this in moderation or with Madonna's workout routine.

My mom gave me this Hot Buttered Rum recipe while I was still in college...you can image what a hit that was after finals! I found the same recipe on Culinary Fool, and its images look so scrummy that I had to link up with it. It's a very simple recipe. The images are making my mouth water!

Ingredients:

• Ice cream ~ 1 quart
• Butter ~ 1 pound
• Brown Sugar ~ 1 pound
• Powered Sugar ~ 1 pound
• Nutmeg ~ 2 tsp.
• Cinnamon ~ 2 tsp.
• Rum

STEP 1
Let ice cream sit out until it's very soft and liquid-y (see Step 1 image below)

STEP 2

Mix butter until it's creamy, light, and fluffy.

STEP 3

Add brown sugar, powdered sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Mix with the butter until blended. (see Step 3 image below)

STEP 4

Add the ice cream. Mix. Scrape the sides of the bowl a couple times--the ice cream will chill the butter mixture and it will stick to the sides of the bowl. The finished batter will be smooth with a few little butter balls--these should be very small though. (see Step 4 image below)

STEP 5

Put the batter in a freezer container. Store in the freezer until ready to use.

TO MAKE HOT BUTTERED RUM

Take a heaping soup spoon of the batter. Put it in a cup with 1 shot of rum. Mash it until the batter softens.

Fill the cup with boiling water. Adjust the amount of Hot buttered Rum batter based on your personal preference. Stir.

Sprinkle with a grated nutmeg.

James Bond: Quantum Intimates

Dear Lingeristas, you had to know that I was going to post about the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. This is because Daniel Craig wearing a Versace swimsuit in Casino Royale is forever burned in my brain. So I had to share...

In terms of the movie, all I can say is that if you enjoyed the first Daniel Craig Bond Film, then you'll enjoy the second one! Quantum of Solace starts where Casino Royale left off. Fueled by the loss of his love and torment for Vesper, Bond is in search of answers and perhaps revenge....

Craig's portrayal of Bond is well done as he walks a fine balance of Bond's qualities, including good, bad, and everything in between. It makes Bond human, endearing, and, of course, the ultimate, ass-kicking super agent. Did I just say, "ass-kicking" on my blog...?

In Quantum of Solace, I searched high and low for any trace of lingerie, and the best of what I found is here for you now. Olga Kurylenko plays Camille (image above), and she does a bit of "ass-kicking" herself, mostly in a white tank top.

Crisp and clean, the white tank top is a classic piece in any wardrobe. I admit that I have three of them that I wear to bed, all the same style and bought in the men's department. It seems that her tank top in the movie is actually a man's tank too, but it adds a bit of sex appeal to it.

The versatility of a white tank is tremendous. You can dress it up or down, take it on vacation, wear it to bed, under clothes, for a workout...you get my point. The possibilities are endless. In any case, a white tank top is a sexy, sporty, inexpensive option for your wardrobe.

Faire Frou Frou ~ Trunk Show Success

Last Tuesday night, Faire Frou Frou's Alison and Gail hosted a very special trunk show in which donations were given to Longfellow Elementary School. We're happy to say the event raised nearly $1,000 for "at-risk" girls "who will be steered in a positive direction through etiquette classes and other club activities designed to empower them."

Intimates in Film: Mrs. Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Finally, a fun, period piece that I can share with my girlfriends. Move over Pride & Prejudice and Bridget Jones' Diary, here comes Mrs. Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Besides, the film is all about lingerie...and you know how I love lingerie!

What is the film about, you ask?

According to imdb, "War threatens London as Miss Pettigrew, a destitute governess, filches a client's card from her agency and presents herself at the door. A singer named Delysia Lafosse wants a social secretary as she seeks a West End role by sleeping with a feckless producer in the bed of Nick, a smarmy nightclub owner with whom she also dallies. She ignores Michael, her piano player, who loves her and has tickets for New York on the Queen Mary. Miss Pettigrew's job is to make sure Delysia gets the part. Over 24 hours, Miss Pettigrew is also called upon to help an ambitious and unfaithful fashion editor patch things up with her older fiancé, a lingerie designer. Has Miss Pettigrew found her calling?"


Is the film worth seeing?

Life in Lingerie says about the film, "If you’re looking for a rom-com that both you and your significant other will be able to stomach, you’d do well to check out “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” starring the always brilliant Frances McDormand and the adorable Amy Adams. This lighthearted British farce was adapted from a 1939 novel, and it is a prime example of the screwball comedy genre, full of wacky shenanigans and improbable situations. Amy Adams does a phenomenal job of capturing the sensuality and frivolity that actresses like Carole Lombard and Marilyn Monroe perfected on the silver screen - she must have studied My Man Godfrey and Some Like it Hot prior to filming. It lacks the depth of many other films covering the Bright Young Things in pre-war London, but it is still thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to the excellent cast and sumptuous cinematography. Lille fans will love the lingerie fashion show in a gilded hotel ballroom and are sure to enjoy the debate about foundation undergarments…here’s a great quote: 'you, as nature intended.'”
